Chatfield Reservoir Reallocation Project
Coalition Coordinating Committee

Washington, D.C. Meeting Summary
June 17-19,2007

Mondav.JuneI8.2007

9:00 a.m. Meeting: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Headquarters
Carol Angier, Ken Hall, John Micik, and Larry Prather, USACE
Tom Browning, Tracy Bouvette, John Hendrick, David Howlett, Marge Price, Jim
Reasoner and Mark Shively, Chatfield Reservoir Reallocation Coalition

Tom Browning opened the meeting with the Corps and asked people to introduce
themselves and to summarize their project involvement and the organization they
represent. He said the group represents the state and the water users. He reported that
work is again progressing on the EIS as well as on users' preparations for next steps
including water contracts. He said that brings us to Washington to try to get more
information on upcoming steps in the process as well as look for comparable projects to
study.

Tom Browning briefly described South Platte River Basin water needs between now and
2030, as identified by the Statewide Water Supply Initiative (SWSI) process. He said the
needs are being addressed through conservation and planned projects, including
Chatfield. Jim Reasoner said our sources are limited to surface water and underground
aquifers. John Hendrick briefly described Centennial's history, saying Two Forks would
have given the District 6500 acre feet of water. He said they are still seeking supply
options. They do not have enough to recharge the Denver Basin Aquifer. Chatfield
would help but is not a total answer. Whatever added water they get from Chatfield will
help prolong the District's deep well sources. If Chatfield reallocation water was
available for capture this spring they could have filled their entire allocation. John Micik
indicated that he appreciated John's remarks.

John Micik asked about growth pressures and agricultural needs that influence the
reallocation project. Tom Browning discussed the SWSI study and how it examines
population, supply and demand forecasts for each river basin in the state to the year 2030.
SWSI identifies an overall 406,000 AF need in the South Platte Basin. Of this amount,
water sources have not yet been identified for 90,000 AF of the total 406,000 AF amount.
Chatfield Reservoir Reallocation would help to meet up to 20,600 AF of this 90,000 AF
shortfall.

1
