SWSI Phase 2 Technical Roundtable
Water Conservation and Efficiency
^ What is the effect of achieving higher levels of conservation with regard to
additional temporary demand reductions required during droughts?
^ What are the projected long-term savings from M&I and agricultural conservation
alternatives?
^ How much of the recent reductions in demand since the 2002 drought will be
permanent?
^ What is the effect of weather on post-drought water use?
^ What structural measures have been implemented that will result in permanent
reductions in demand?
^ Will behavioral changes as a result of the drought be permanent? How can they be
encouraged and made permanent?
^ What additional measures may be required to ensure that reductions in water use
are permanent?
^ Have water providers implemented additional conservation measures f rom the
year 2000 base levels assumed in the SWSI report? Are these changes in levels of
conservation permanent? Are you talking about Providers system loss here or
increased conservation by water users?
^ What are the associated water quality changes when water is conserved and return
flows are reduced?
^ Is there a potential loss of riparian habitat and instream habitat with increased
conservation?
^ What are the potential savings f rom phreatophyte control?
^ What are the water quality impacts f rom phreatophyte control?
^ Will agricultural efficiency improvements reduce diversions and/or return flows?
Legal,/Water Rights
^ Can an M&I user store or otherwise dispose of conserved water?
^ Which agricultural ef ficiency measures are legal?
^ Which agricultural efficiency measures are legal, but may have significant negative
impacts to other water rights and the environment?
^ What are the impacts of MB~I and agricultural efficiency measures on timing and
amount of return flows?
^ What are the constraints on ability to use water that is saved as the result of
implementation of efficiency measures?
~• ~
DRAFT
4
S:IMEETINGSITECHNICAL ROUNDTABLEITRT MEETING - SPECIFICIWATER EFFICIENCYISWSI WATER EFFICIENCY TRT BRIEFING.DOC
