Addressing the Gap Technical Roundtable Meeting #2
Meeting Summary

careful not to impact substantiability of ditch systems. Look at better management. Look at
recharge systems to manage times when there is excess flow.
. Look at agriculture as storage, alluvial recharge. Follow the hydrograph, varies year to year.
M&I should keep water in agriculture so it can be moved around when needed.
. Market forces for M&I now oil shale demands in WD 70. Sleeper is the demand to support
population, not direct oil shale processing.
. Land use folks should be part of decisionmaking.
. Suburban development is on 3-acre lots. Water use is inefficient. One-half acre lawn and
2-1/2-acres of weeds. No idea of management; planners are reactors. Doesn't get what state
thinks can be done if each county sets minimum lot sizes. People should be able to live where
they want but planners minimum lot sizes are inconsistent.
. Share info with them; environmental and recreational needs.

Update on TRT Progress to Date

Rick Brown provided an update on the other TRTs progress to date. No comments were
received on this portion of the meeting.

Water Availability for New Supply Development

Kelly DiNatale presented a water supply availability analysis focusing on availability with the
eight major river basins. Following are comments received on this analysis:

. Current level of demands in every basin is at unsustainable use of water especially during
drought.
. M&I demands can not necessarily always cut back 20 to 30 percent and still get some crop
like agriculture does.
. South Metro seems to also be at unsustainable levels. Why did that not get an unsustainable
design?
- The Denver Basin is statutorily defined in a different way.
. Hydrologically to the Denver Basin is still being depleted and is unsustainable regardless of
the regulatory definition.

New Supply Development MAJOR Structural Options for Select Gap
Areas
Kelly DiNatale presented details on major structural options for select gap areas. These options
included:
. Lower South Platte/ Arkansas Pumpback
. Blue Mesa Pumpback to South Platte and Arkansas and Firming of Colorado Basin Supplies
. Colorado River Return Reconnaissance Study
. Green Mountain Pumpback

South Platte/Arkansas Pumpback

. Are you assuming RO treatment?
- Yes.
. 163,000 acre-feet with or without storage?

CDIVI

5

S:\SWSI 2\TRT Meeting - Specific\Addressing Gap\summary\Addressing Gap TRT #2 Summary.doc
