Conservation Tips

. In areas that won't be walked and played on
very much, consider an alternative to traditional
turf like a low-growing juniper that will still add a
splash of green to your landscape while requiring
a fraction of the water that most lawns do.

. Put the plants that require the most water at a
lower elevation than those that require less water.
Precipitation will run downhill to the plants that
need it most.

. Water when the temperature is cooler, and
you will reduce the amount of water that evapo-
rates into the air. A I so, it is g en e ra II y bette r to
water less frequently for longer periods of times as
opposed to often for shorter periods of time. You
want to soak the lawn thoroughly so the water
travels into the ground and allows the grass roots
to grow deeper. But if you see water running off,
you shou Id stop wateri ng.

. We need to alter our attitude that grass has to
be lush and green all the time. We do, after all,
I ive on the edge of what was once called 'The
Great American Desert.'

. Check with your local water provider - that's
usually a city or water district, whoever sends
your water bill. Often times, these entities offer
free or discounted irrigation system audits to their
customers.

.

1. Using your cell phone, dial 408-794-3706
(toll free). Press 1 # to hear an introduction.
The entire tour takes approximately 25 min.

2. When you see a blue plaque with the.
symbol, enter the prompt number followed by
the # key. You do not have to go in numerical
order.

3. Leave feedback about the tour at any time
by entering 500#.

There is no charge to listen - you wi II
just have to use your airtime minutes.

Check with your cell phone service provider for details.

N ortllenl Coloraclo Water
COllservaIlcy District

220 Water Avellue.
