· Northern Water's public information department designed brochures explaining
how to use the cell phone audio tour. Those were printed in-house on Northern
Water's color copiers. Northern Water purchased free-standing brochure holders
that are located near the entrances of the Interpretive Area and the Conservation
Gardens.
· Using tools available through the Guide by Cell service, the public information
staff created an mp3 audio file of the audio prompts and laid the narration over
pictures of the various stops to create a slideshow that is available at Northern
Water's home page - www.ncwcd.org.

THE RESULTS

Guide by Cell offers access through its Web site to real-time data about how many people
are calling the tour, when they're calling the tour, what prompts they're listening to, etc.
Here's a summary of some of the statistics: (Data reflect usage from June 19, 2007, to
Nov. 5, 2007)

Statistic Item

T atal

# Inbound calls

666

Average # Inbound calls per day
W Unigue visitord
~verage # unigue visitors Qer da~

4.8
---,
m
~

D

# Prompts heard

1592

Average # prompts heard per day

11.4

Average # prompts heard per call

2.4

# Inbound calls per unique visitor
~verage # p-rom!;2ts heard p-er unigue visitorJ

1.6
c-J
M

Total # minutes used

20:43:37

Average # minutes used per day

08: 52

Average # minutes per call

01 :52

Average # minutes per unique visitor

02: 59

More than 400 unique visitors (different phone numbers) have called the tour since its
official launch on June 19,2007, and an average of three visitors call the tour each day.
But also interesting is the fact that the average visitor only listens to an average of 3.8
prompts even though there are 22 different audio prompts, a point that will be discussed
later under the 'Challenges' section.
