Bob Streeter: that was for 2007
Eric Wilkinson: In Colorado River Basin, proposal by BLM on upper CO River Basin to
designate some areas of the upper basin as Wild and Scenic; this could have some affects
in water management; some entities are entering into these discussions for protections;
also another proposal for Wild designation on Yampa, near Dinosaur, that if this were to
go forward, any possibility of a Yampa project would go away. Wild and Scenic
Designated River is Cache La Poudre; attempt in South Platte Basin to designate, but
water users put together a management plan to take that off the table; efforts have gone
through the BLM and are now at the suitability and are moving toward the suitability
process in the CO River basin; if it is determined to be eligible it is managed as though it
has been designated; if only suitable, not managed; if Congress does not act to remove it,
then BLM will manage as if designated only that there would not be a reserved water
right associated with it.
Dianne Hopper: is the comment period closed on this?
Eric W: No.
Fred Wallcer: We have spoken about being proactive on things; is this something we want
to comment on?
Harold: Yes, we should comment; the ramifications could be severe.
Fred: We should write a comment letter.
Bob: It would be appropriate to have a presentation.
Hecox. Roy Smith taking the lead for BLM on this issue; group of stakeholders are
getting together to discuss this; would be good to hear how these stakeholders are
weighing in.
Bob: It would be appropriate to send a letter to BLM
McVicker: will be willing to write letter to BLM to ask that we be given time
Diane Hoppe: make sure that we address both rivers.
Bob Streeter: Motion: Ask BLM to extend period
John Metli: Second
Motion carries
Next meeting: October 9, Tuesday: 4-8
13
