Non-Reimbursable Application -CWCB Construction Fund
Form Revised June 2006
3. Pro~~ide a brief description of your organization below:
The TC is a legal non-profit entity organized to promote awareness and sponsor solutions to
the statewide problem of invasive phreatophyte infestations of the state's riparian areas,
particularly Tamarisk and Russian Olive. The TC has worked closely with the CWCB and the
Colorado Dept. of Natural Resources to attack this problem on local, regional, state and
federal levels.
'art B. -Description of the Project or Study
1. Check one.
Study
x Demonstration project.
Rehabilitation or
replacement of existing
Other (Please describe)
3. General location of the study or demonstration project. (Please include county, and approximate distance
and direction from the nearest town):
Statewide, in all major river basins.
4. Please provide a brief narrative description of the proposed study or demonstration project including
purpose, need, and service area. (Attach scope of study, if available)
The TC has completed inventories and mapping of tamarisk infestations across the state and assisted
watershed groups in developing control plans. This approach is called for in the DNR 10 Year Strategic
Plan, commissioned by Gov. Bill Owens in 2003. Federal demonstration program legislation has been
adopted, but not yet funded. The TC grant program would be complimentary of the federal program,
and also provide financial assistance to those watersheds not accepted into the federal program. It is
anticipated that the CWCB funds will be matched with federal, local and private funds at a rate of 25%
state to 75% other.
2
