November 5, 2007
1. Yampa & South Platte Roundtables -Dan Birch discussed the results of the meeting of the
Yampa and South Platte Roundtables, which took place in September 2007. He discussed a
proposed pumpback project on the Yampa River, which would move water approximately
100 miles backup river and eventually to the Front Range. The timeline for the project is
estimated at 15 years. He mentioned that there were concerns about what might happen to
the Yampa Basin. The Roundtable members discussed possible effects on the Colorado
Basin.
2. Water Needs Assessment Activities -Tyler Martineau said there had been two meetings of
the GBRT Water Needs Assessment subcommittee since the last GBRT meeting, where they
discussed both consumptive and non-consumptive water needs. Attributes relating to
environmental and recreational (R&E) activities will be summarized and presented in the
non-consumptive assessment. Committee was not comfortable prioritizing these needs. The
subcommittee recognizes that over time, the consumptive uses have facilitated the R&E uses
in the Basin. There was also a lot of discussion regarding availability of water in the
Gunnison Basin, and it was generally felt that any changes to status quo would have
detrimental impacts in some area of the Basin.
Todd Dougherty of the Colorado Water Conservation Board reviewed the status of each task
order and their progress. Todd announced that John Sikora of URS in Glenwood Springs
would be subcontracting with CDM as the Gunnison Basin Roundtable's Technical Advisor.
Report will be presented in January to the Roundtable. Mike Gross will continue in an
advisory role for the Basin.
3. Annual Meeting -Marc Catlin made a motion to retain the current officers of the Gunnison
Basin Roundtable. The motion was seconded by many members, and the motion carried
unanimously.
Peter Kasper made a motion to retain the official posting place as Delta County Courthouse.
Ron Shaver seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
4. Other - Hugh Sanburg mentioned that the bylaws were to be reviewed annually and
proposed to bring that topic forward in the next meeting.
Ralph Grover asked if there were any projects for the next month. No one mentioned any
new proposals.
Next Meeting
The next meeting of the Gunnison Basin Roundtable will be December 3, 2007.
Ad' ourn
There being no further business to come before the Roundtable, the meeting adjourned at 6:15 pm.
Mike B erry, Recorder
4
