1II-6

A backwater analysis program developed by the U. S. Bureau of
Reclamation was used to determine the depth of flooding for storms of
various frequencies. Volume II of this Report shows the flood plain
limits for the 100-year return interval flood. The extent of flooding
represented by the present peak and that projected peak for 1990 con-
ditions are virtually identical so the flood plain limits shown in Volume
II reflects present conditions and conditions after development of the
basin was complete.

DESCRIPTION OF THE EXTENT OF FLOODING

The inundated areas during the 100 -year flood are shown in Volume
II. Flooding upstream of Baseline Road encroaches on man-made devel-
opment only in isolated areas. Downstream, or north of Baseline Road, a
greater number of dwellings will be inundated during the 100 -year return
interval flood. Assuming that the development of the basin is consistent
with the Boulder Valley Comprehensive Plan, only very minor amounts
of additional construction would be allowed in the flood plain. Therefore,
principal attention for flood protection should be directed to the develop-
ment north of Baseline Road.
