The main drainagcway within the watershed is the Frenchman <br />Creek which l10ws west to cast through Phillips county into Nebraska. <br /> <br />I <br />. <br />. <br /> <br />Figure 2.3 (next page) shows a map of the area which reported llooding. As previously <br />stated, the tlooding alTcctcd Phillips County. CO including the City of Ilolyoke and the <br />Town of Amherst but also extended into southwestern Nebraska stretching from the <br />Ogallala area 10 sOllth of Champion. <br /> <br />Storm Characteristics and I{ainfalllnformation <br /> <br />Since the stonll activity affected such a large area. local rainfall information and news <br />reports were available from a variety of sources. <br /> <br />I <br />. <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />i' <br />. <br />. <br /> <br />The National Weather Service (NWS) issued various Flood Warnings within eastern <br />Phillips County for small streams and low-lying areas beginning June 11th and ending al <br />noon on Thursday June 14th. <br /> <br />The CoCoRaHS network (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow network) <br />continues to grow throughout the country, and provided the best source of rainfall <br />information for lhis report with available daily precipitation reports for multiple areas in <br />Phillips County. Figures 2.4 through 2.6 show the rainfall infonnation related to Phillips <br />Counly. Reported daily rainfall amounts for the county range from Y:l inch to 3.9 inches <br />on Monday June 11th with Tuesday reports ranging from 0.7 inches on the western edge <br />of the county, all the way up to 6.4 inches being reported just west urlhe Nebraska <br />border. Wednesday, June 13th. 2007, saw amounts ranging from 0.06 inches in the wesl <br />to 0.84 inches around Amherst. CoCoRallS rainfall infonnation for areas within <br />Nebraska were also available and have been included in the Additional Support <br />Infomlation section of this report. <br /> <br />Varous news reporting agencies reported similar rainfall infommlion. 7.News reported <br />lhat "a wcather observer near Amherst, CO...recorded 4.88 inches of rain within a few <br />hours Monday (June 11th) night."
