<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />FLOOD DOCUMENTATION REPORT CHAPTER 2 <br /> <br />Phillips County, Colorado Flooding <br />Week of June II t", 2007 <br /> <br />Introduction <br /> <br />During the week ofJunc t Ilh, 2007, several <br />severe rainstorms impacted the northeast <br />corner of Colorado extending into the <br />southwest corner of Nebraska. The most <br />intense rainfall occurred over a three day <br />period extending from the 11lh to the 13lh of <br />June. The impacted area included Phillips <br />County in Colorado as well as several <br />Nebraska counties including Chase, Perkins. <br />and Keith counties. As much as 6.4 inches of <br />daily precipitation was recorded in Phillips <br />County with Nebraska's Chase County having <br />daily values as high as 8.7 inches. <br /> <br /> <br />Figure 2.1 - Phillips County Location <br /> <br />Several state highways in Phillips County had to be closed due to standing water in <br />various locations and a private railroad crossing near Amherst. CO was washed out as the <br />existing culverts at that location were overwhelmed. Reports indicate one residence <br />experienced moderate 1100d damage as the homeowner reported as mueh as 16 inches of <br />standing water in her unlinished basement. Additionally. most of the county roads <br />experienced some degree of 1100d damage (such as washouts and ponding) requiring <br />thcm to bc closcd until repairs could be madc. <br /> <br />Total costs to repair the damage in the county arc estimated in the range of $30,000 to <br />$40,000 which docs not include any of the costs incurred by any of the private <br />landowners in the area. <br /> <br />Location and Descrintion <br /> <br />Phiilips County is located in the northeast comer of the state along the Colorado- <br />Nebraska border. According to the 2000 Census, the total county population is 4,480 <br />with the majority of the population (over 50%) residing within the City of Holyoke which <br />is al.so the county scat. <br /> <br />ICON Engneer-ing, lr1c <br /> <br />June 2007 <br />
