HAP-les = "loquacious excellent scholars"

Bob J: paleo guy USGS

Pedro R: South Boulder resident, involved in South Boulder citizens review.
Feel that Taggart is deficient: the scope was limited; the findings insufficient.
Worked to prepare the Hydrology report from the citizens committee.
Recommended -- new study (should be) funded.
Two parts: what models/standards/data to be applied;
And, guidelines: what should be worked through to get "good hydrology"* (*group
needs to define.)

George L: Hydrology modeling. Has created sort ofa "modeling tool box" - combined
variety of remote sensing, other. There is no optimal mode, but suites and suites of
models.

View studies and descriptions at: w\vw.brrcr.usgs.gov/
MMS, WEASEL,W ARSMP (?)

Working now not just to model, but to apply optimal combination of process stimulators.
Desegregate - process components. Determine most robust. .. looking at randar (?) data
NCAR: Tom Werner, David Yates.

(George cites examples found at the website.)

Jeffco- hydrology recharge. Convened model to look at housing...
National Distribution model and computer project NWS - apply rainfall runoff
data for hydrologic modeling community
Model (modal?) -parameter exploration project - making data sets available,
parameter uncertainty analysis.

Kevin S: Urban Drainage District.
Not here to argue agency position. Interested in exploring the tools we use (geo.) in
weather forecast world. Believe that a community model exists, and that it has been
adopted by the City and County of Boulder. Came here because of the colleagues at the
table. Been at flood control district since 1984. Work on early warning.
Concern that there is a danger with attacking the accepted methods. When you break
down accepted methods, get into legislative questions. Minimum standard - 100year-
considered "economic" reasonable standard. When these change, there is an economic
impact to the taxpayer. If you mess around with the 100 year - added cost factor for all
PW projects, anything involving water flow.

That being said, do think that there are ways to impose more restrictive standards.
Possible that community leadership could drive this.
Have Alan work with County, find some agreement.
