~
County Name Contact Title/Position
Modoc County Scott Kessler Planning Director
Telenhone
I (530) 233-6406
I 10/23/98 contacted Mr. Kessler. The Surprise Valley fan is the only alluvial fan that the county is
aware of. The Surprise Valley fan once experienced flash flooding and debris flow. There was no
significant damage because the area was undeveloped.
Modoc County has no specific alluvial fan definition or classification system to identify and
characterize alluvial fans. The county is interested in obtaining general guidelines for identifying and
classifying alluvial fans.
I
I
CountyName Contact Title/Position
Mono County Richard Boardman Public Works Director
Telenhone
I (760) 932-5252
Mr. Keith Hartstrom, Senior Planner, (760) 932-5217
10/23/98 contacted Mr. Hartstrom. Mono County is largely undeveloped with only about 10,000
people. There is no geologist working for the county to analyze and study alluvial fans.
There are some alluvial fans in the White Mountains to the east of Highway 6, north of Bishop. The
areas are largely undeveloped, and there is no study or data on alluvial fans available.
I Since there are potential risks from alluvial fan flooding, the county is interested in obtaining
information and guidelines to identify, classify, and regulate development on alluvial fans.
I
I
Attachment 2 - Appendix A 13
