Mendocino County is unaware of any alluvial fans. The county is
located in an area of unstable geology. There are piles of talus from fault activities,

he county has no definition or classification system to identify alluvial fans.

For further information about alluvial fans in Mendocino County, contact Ms. Julie Sowma, Geologist,
(707) 462-0506.

CountyName Contact Title/Position
Merced County Robert Smith Planning Director
Teleohone
(209) 385-7654
Mr. Butch Cope, Planning & Community Development
10/23/98 contacted Mr. Cope. There is no specific information or study on alluvial fans in Merced
County. There are some small alluvial fans along the coastal ranges in areas such as Ortigalita Creek
and Los Banos Creek.
These creeks experience some minor landslides, usually in localized and confined gully areas. These
creeks are usually dry during the summer, and wet and flowing during the spring and winter.
The county is interested in obtaining information and procedural guidelines to identify and classify
alluvial fans.

Attachment 2 - Appendix A

12
