Evans <br />Director, eWeB <br /> <br />To: Larry <br /> <br />From: Tom Browning <br /> <br />Date: August 2, 1999 <br /> <br />Re: Proposed travel to Saguache County for Flood Documentation. <br /> <br />Saguache County exper~enced heavy rains and flooding on the evening of July 26 in portions of <br />the Saguache Creek wat~rshed. Up to 7.5" ofrain fell in a short period oftime causing various <br />damages to infrastructure and private property (see my memo dated July 29). <br /> <br />Due to this event, the County Emergency Manager (Larry Zimmer) phoned and asked if we <br />could provide technica~ assistance in the form of post-flood documentation and to suggest <br />possible mitigation strategies. Mr. Zimmer said he would be very appreciative if someone from <br />our office could meet With him this week. In response to the flood and to his request, I have <br />scheduled the following' site visit: <br />! <br />i <br />II Carolyn and Tom leave Denver at 7:30 am Aug. 4 <br />I <br /> <br />II Meet with Larry Zi~er and Water Commissioner Aug. 4 around 11 am <br /> <br />II <br /> <br />Perform field investigations in upper Saguache Creek watershed including high water marks, <br />channel cross-sections, and slopes for indirect flow estimates. Rainfall bucket surveys to the <br />extent possible. Photographs of damage areas and affected streams. Eye-witness accounts <br />I <br />and flood history if possible. <br /> <br />Work a long day oniWed., and stay in Saguache or Salida on Wed. night. <br /> <br />Return to Denver Thurs. morning. <br /> <br />Estimated travel cost = $150 (lodging and per diem for Tom and Carolyn) <br /> <br />II <br /> <br />II <br /> <br />II <br /> <br />If you do not agree with this proposal, please let me know by 4pm on Aug. 2nd so that we can <br />change or cancel the plaps.
