Up to 7.5" of rain fell in a short period of time causing various
damages to infrastructurf and private property (see my memo dated July 29).

Due to this event, the County Emergency Manager (Larry Zimmer) phoned and asked if we
I
could provide technica~ assistance in the form of post-flood documentation and to suggest
possible mitigation strategies. Mr. Zimmer said he would be very appreciative if someone from
our office could meet 'Yith him this week. In response to the flood and to his request, I have
scheduled the.following!site visit:

· Carolyn and Tom leave Denver at 7:30 am Aug. 4
I
I

· Meet with Larry Zin?-mer and Water Commissioner Aug. 4 around 11 am .

I
. Perform field investigations in upper Saguache Creek watershed including high water marks,
channel cross-sectiohs, and slopes for indirect flow estimates. Rainfall bucket survl~YS to the
extent possible. Photographs of damage areas and affected streams. Eye-witness accounts
and flood history if possible.

Work a long day on Wed., and stay in Saguache or Salida on Wed. night.

.

.

Return to Denver Thurs. morning.
I

Estimated travel cost = $150 (lodging and per diem for Tom and Carolyn)

.

If you do not agree witp. this proposal, please let me know by 4pm on Aug. 2nd so that we can
change or cancel the plahs. Thanks!
