WILDLIFE, TERRESTRIAL (includes a finding on Standard 3)

Affected Environment: The habitat type found in the project area is primarily foothills
riparian along the Arkansas River. There are no significant uplands areas involved. The public
lands are very close to Buena Vista and other high public use facilities. As a result the public
lands receive very little use by larger wildlife species. The use of the riparian habitat would be
considered high by small birds and mammals.

Environmental Consequences/Mitigation: Impacts to wildlife can be minimized by
reducing the amount of riparian habitat that is disturbed. In order for this project to get approval
from other agencies, the proponent would need to get a Phase II, Storm Water Discharge permit
from the State of Colorado, and a 404 Permit from the Army Corps of Engineers. The restriction
proposed in the Migratory Bird section of this EA to complete no vegetation disturbance during
the April 15 to July 15 period will help to reduce impacts to other species as well.

Finding on the Public Land Health Standard for Plant and Animal Communities
(partial, see also Vegetation and Wildlife, Aquatic): The project would not impact or change public land
health standards for Plant and Animal Communities.

OTHER NON-CRITICAL ELEMENTS: For the following elements, those brought forward for
analysis will be formatted as shown above.

Non-Critical Element

NA or Not Applicable or
P P N I

Applicable & Present and
B hF dfi Ani "

resent resent, o Llnpact roug! t orwar or alYSlS
Cadastral Survey X
Fire X
Forest Management X
Geology and Minerals X
Hydrology/W ater Rights X
Law Enforcement NA
Paleontology NA
Noise X
Range Management X
Realty Authorizations X
Recreation X
Socio- Economics X
Transportation & Access X
Visual Resources X

FORESTRY

Mfected Environment: There are a number oftrees (primarily cottonwoods) along the
river that may be affected by the construction of one of the foot trails. The upland areas have a
sparse covering of pinyon and juniper trees.
