River Recreation Data <br /> <br />Details regarding the specific survey instruments used to determine water needs for <br />recreation activities on the Arkansas River are briefly described listed below. <br /> <br />1995 Mail Survey (See Appendix A for a copy of the Survey instrument) <br />· Primary source of data for river recreation analysis. <br />· Focused on experienced us~rs with existing knowledge of different flows. <br />· Mailing list compiled from outfitters, clubs and organizations, and local users. <br />· Notices soliciting input were also posted at local bait and tackle stores and in local <br />newspapers. <br />· Total of 419 respondents. Many respondents provided information for more than one <br />activity and/or more than one river segment. <br />· Two thirds of the respondents provided information regarding boating activities, while <br />one third provided information regarding fishing opportunities. <br />· Two thirds of the respondents represented private inter~sts, ,while the remaining one third <br />represented commercial interests. <br />· Respondents were specifically aSked to rate flow levels for different recreation activities <br />from 200 cfs to 2500 cfs in 100 cfs increments. Responses were based on an individuals <br />prior experiences and knowledge of river conditions at specific flow levels. <br /> <br />1991 VPI Survey <br />· On-site contacts followed by detailed mail surveys. <br />· Focus on boaters and anglers. <br />· Conducted from Leadville to Canon City. However, angling contacts were concentrated <br />in river Segments 3 (Stockyard Bridge to Badger Creek) and 4 (Coaldale to Pinnacle <br />Rock. <br />· Anglers sampled,fromJune 14 to September 30. <br />· Boaters contacted between Memorial Day and August 16. <br />· Both commercial and private boaters surveyed. <br />· Encompassed flows from 300 cfs to > 2400 cfs. <br />· 863 river users were asked about flows (549 boaters - 64% and 314 anglers - 36%). <br />.83% of boaters surveyed were commercial users, primarily customers. <br /> <br />Arkansas River Water Needs Assessment <br />Recreation Report - Draft <br /> <br />Page 8 <br />September 20, 1996 <br />
