5) Mountain pine beetle killed stands

. Soil Erodibility: The resolution of these maps tends to limit their applicability, but
they provide a good indication of regional differences in the tendency for a soil to
erode easily.

. Other Physical Factors:
1) Elevation: some elevations are at higher risk than others. Higher sub-
alpine forests have had much less of a tendency to burn. The extent
of the Hayman fire was at least in part due to the higher potential for
forest fires in the range of elevations, about 6800 to 9000 feet, in
which most of the burn occurred.
2) Aspect: Drier, southern facing slopes are more conducive to risk of
severe burning.
3) Canopy cover: denser stands will have a higher risk for high-intensity
and severe burning.
4) Fire behavior (crown fire versus ground fire)

. Eligibility: In addition to the other prioritization factors listed above, proposals
including the following features should be viewed more favorably.
1) Collaboratiol1: proposals with a cross-spectnul1 of agencies, private
organizations and private industry
2) Multi-faceted approach: proposals that benefit life, property and
environment, in addition to water supply.
3) Cost sharing: e.g., leveraging of funds to create a more efficient
and/or effective project.

P: I.sSP 1122 CrvCB'DoclImentslDraftActionPlanlH andollt JormafiActionP lan_ v02. doc
Page 60(6
