<br />. <br /> <br /> <br /><. w ~.... <br /> <br />STATE OF TExAs <br />OFRCEOFTHEGoVERNOR <br /> <br />September 30, 2005 <br /> <br />Greetings: <br /> <br />The State of Texas is honored to host the Western States Water Council's 2005 fall <br />meeting. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />On behalf of all Texans, I am pleased to welcome the visitors present to the Lone Star <br />State. a state where our historyhas.inspired folklore. books, songs and movies the world <br />over. Since the early pioneer days. many have converged upon this great land to chart a <br />new dayfof.themselvesand their families. We especially welcome you to our rich <br />tapestry of cultures that combine to give the Lone Star State a distinctive blend of <br />traditions. and heritage, renowned the world over. Our diversity is reflected in all facets, <br />from business and culture to .education and the arts. Without a doubt, our people are our <br />best asset and our brightest stars of hope for the future. I am certain that you will enjoy <br />your stay in San Antonio. the Alamo City. <br /> <br />As we look to that future, no issue is more important than ensuring sound stewardship of <br />our resources. We take pride in our awareness of water issues. and take seriously the <br />challenge of balancing the management of this resource to meet the needs of our people, <br />our economy. and our environment The 50-year Texas State Water Plan is a <br />monumentalacbievementin water policy; the plan provides a comprehensive assessment <br />of water suppliesinTexas and identifies locally formulated strategies to ensure that these <br />supplies are developed and managed effectively and efficiently. Continuing and <br />implementing these . measures in Texas. and other initiatives throughout the nation. <br />demands unrelenting focus.
