In addition to the pilot
testing field work, a work
plan will be prepared
outlining the various test
scenarios, operating
procedures, and the
results will be presented
in a Pilot Test Report. A
significant amount of
water quality testing is
included in the pilot
testing program to
monitor the water quality
of the various process
streams. The pilot testing
project also includes the
design and procurement
of a significant amount of
equipment,
instrumentation and
ancillary components
that have to be
assembled at the
Lochbuie site. It is
estimated that there will
be approximately 4 months of technical activities
prior to beginning field activities in April 2008, and
2 months to complete the reports after the tests are
completed in September 2008. The total duration of
the ZLD pilot testing project is approximately
11 months, and the estimated cost for labor,
utilities, equipment, and laboratory testing is
$475,000.

Operation

The pilot test for each technology will utilize
concentrate from the Town of Lochbuie low pressure
RO system as the feedwater, which is representative
of a typical low pressure brackish RO process. Using
the Lochbuie concentrate will provide a sufficient
quantity of feedwater that both treatment
technologies can be testing simultaneously. The
Lochbuie RO system has been operating consistently
for several years, which will reduce the
potential variability of the concentrate being
tested. It is proposed to test each ZLD
technology at several different recovery ratios
to determine the practical operating limits.
The recovery will be increased in increments
and operated for approximately 2 weeks to
verify that mineral scaling will not adversely
impact the system performance. It is proposed
to test various recovery ratios, chemical
pretreatment alternatives, flux rates, and
chemical cleaning procedures during the
approximate 3-month test period.
