A summary of staff's initial approach to evaluating consumptive water needs,

The Board will be provided with an overview of these documents and will be asked for input on the direction
proposed by staff. As we proceed forward in defining and proposing solutions to Colorado's future water
supply needs it is important that we maintain both a focus on the grass roots Basin Roundtable process and
provide a fOlUm for conducting statewide analysis and SUPPOlt to the Basin Roundtables, This will help us
develop a common technical platform for analysis and help ensure that we move forward in a consistent and
integrated manner, The proposed process is designed to accomplish these goals and to integrate SWSI and
the Interbasin Compact Process,

It should be noted that the Non-consumptive work group met last month while the consumptive work group is
scheduled to meet on August 1 in Denver, The August 1 st meeting provides a tremendous opportunity for the
work group to assist the Governor, DNR/CWCB and the Interbasin Compact Committee in helping frame and
support the water supply objectives that have been articulated by Governor Ritter.

No fOlmal action is requested of the Board at this time,

Flood Protection.
