<br />programs focus on urban flood damage reduction and channel restoration in the arid <br />and semi-arid regions of the Southwestern United States. The goal of the programs is to <br />develop and demonstrate innovative technologies to address regional problems. Tom <br />Browning serves as the Chair of CASFM and Kevin Houck serves as the Vice-Chair. <br /> <br />Levee Seminars in Colorado: During the second week in June the Floodplain <br />Mapping Coordinator conducted 3 Levee Seminars in Greeley, Colorado Springs and <br />Glenwood Springs. The seminars were advertised and targeted toward new or <br />experienced local floodplain administrators, local government personnel involved with <br />building or maintaining levees, local officials involved in levee construction or funding <br />decisions, and consultants or others tasked with designing, building or maintaining <br />levees. <br /> <br />The seminar was to provide information that pertains to the Federal Emergency <br />management Agency's (FEMA) and the u.s Army Corps of Engineers' (USACE) levee <br />requirements. The seminars addressed FEMA's certification requirements for levees, <br />levee ownership and maintenance responsibilities, Provisionally Accredited Levees <br />(PAL), the USACE and levees, the current CWCB and UDFCD policies on levees, <br />examples of certified levees and future trends in levee certification. These seminars <br />were well attended and well received by all. <br /> <br />Association of Stormwater and Floodplain Managers Conference: During <br />the first week in June, the Floodplain Mapping Coordinator attended the Association of <br />Stormwater and Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) conference in Norfolk Virginia. This <br />conference is the largest conference held in the nation for the discussion of floodplain <br />delineation and policy for the nation. Many presentations discussed the approach to <br />mapping floodplains in the landward side of levees and what is known of the future of <br />the Map Modernization Program. <br /> <br />Non-CWCB Map Modernization projects in the State: It is expected that the Eagle <br />County maps will be effective in December 2007. The LaPlata County new Zone A <br />floodplains to replace the existing Zone D floodplains will be released for preliminary <br />review shortly. Grand County should have effective maps in January of 2008. <br /> <br />FY07 Counties: Mapping Activity Statements (MASs) have been created <br />for Delta, Summit and EI Paso Counties. FEMA is currently reviewing all <br />MASs in order award grants for digital conversion projects by the end of <br />June. Coordination efforts continue with Park County to submit an MAS <br />to FEMA for future funding. <br /> <br />19 <br />
