Point
sources of salinity should be investigated to determine if dual benefits could be
achieved from construction and operation of projects that remove the salt and
provide viable water supply sources. Also, there may be opportunities through
forbearance agreements or other arrangements to obtain dual benefits of reducing
salinity in the Colorado River and augmenting or supplementing the available
supply for intrastate and interstate drought and shortage water management
programs.

On-farm and delivery system improvements for salinity control in the Basin also
serve as a supply enhancement. Such salinity control measures conserve water at
the source by improving irrigation efficiencies and again subsequently
downstream by providing improved salinity thereby allowing for greater water
recycling opportunities.

AUTHORITY: (identitY existing or new)
COST:
FUNDING SOURCE:
ENVIRONMENTAL DOCUMENT: (categorical exclusionlEIS/other)
ENVIRONMENTAL OR ESA ISSUES:
NEED FOR RULES AND REGULATIONS:

-15-
