..

003182

TASK 3--'\VATER DEMANDS

This task will involve the collection of data and information related to previous projec-
tions of water demand for withdrawals and consumptive uses in the study area. The
instream flow recommendations identified for sediment transport and aquatic resource
recovery and maintenance as well as the compact considerations will be identified. The
objective. of this task is to identify those consumptive water demands (location, timing,
quantity) that will be exerted on the basin's water resources in the year 2010 and under
ultimate basin conditions. Comparison of residual flows with the instream flow needs
will be made but those instream flows will not be considered as demands in the hydro-
logic model (Task 4).

The specific elements of this task consist of the following:

· Task 3.A--Municipal, Industrial, Irrigation Demands
· Task 3.B-Environmental Demands
· Task 3.C--Sediment Transport Demands
· Task 3.D--Compact Considerations
· Task 3.E--Total Water Demand Projections

TASK 3.A--MUNICIPAL, INDUSTRIAL,

IRRIGATION DEMANDS

Purpose

The purpose of this task is to identify the projected quantities, timing and location of
water withdrawals, consumptive uses and return flows for municipal, industrial and
irrigation purposes in the study area.

Responsibility

CH2M HILL will be responsible for this task.

Approach

The project team will undenake the following activities:

1. Assess historic economic and demographic trends using data from the U.S.
Bureau of Census, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Colorado Division of
Local Government, Colorado Depanment of Economic Security, Nonhwest
Council of Governments, U.S. Depanment of Agriculture and local and state
government offices.

8

DENI800PI033.51
