'.

003178

TASK 2--POTENTIAL RESERVOIR SITES

In this task, the study te~ identify reservoir sites that could potentially be devel-
oped as alternatives to~water at the Juniper-Cross Mountain sites. Previously
. identified reservoir sites as well as other sites that should be included because of loca-
tion, storage potential, and a qualitative review will be assessed at this stage. Up to 15
reservoir sites will be considered as project elements.

· Task 2.A--Alternative reservoir sites
· Task 2.B--Initial screening
· Task 2.C--Environmental Overview

7
,d'
i'

The specific elements of this task consist of the following:

TASK 2.A-.ALTERNATIVE RESERVOIR SITES

Purpose

The purpose of this task is to identify potential surface reservoir sites in the study area
that can meet local water supply and economic needs, and that can be operated in a
manner compatible with recovery of endangered fish species in downstream areas.

Responsibility

CH2M HILL will be responsible for this task.

Approach

The study team's approach to this task will be to do the following activities:

1. Collect and review available repons, maps, and studies relating to development
of potential dam and reservoir sites in the study area. Specific information
regarding site and regional geology, geotechnical conditions, environmental con-
ditions and constraints, and previous design and cost data will be developed
from the available literature. Environmental data will be forwarded to or
collected bv BIO/WEST. Sources for this data will include the U.S. Bureau of
'"
Reclamation, the Colorado River Water Conservation District, the US
Geological Survey, selected state and local agencies, and the Technical Steering
Committee. Following the literature review, the data will be organized, and a
bibliography will be developed. Tnis effon will include information on the
Juniper, Cross Mountain, Fonification Creek, Thornburg, Kilpatrick, Dunkley
and California Park sites and on the Trout Creek system.

4

DENI800P/033.51
