Item 1 consisted of updating the CRSS hydrology data base through <br />1983, creating additional synthetic hydrology data bases, updating and making <br />corrections to the depletion data base, and updating system characteristics <br />and modeling routines. This latter item included changes to forecast values, <br />the powerplant simulation routine, area-capacity values to include sediment, <br />starting conditions, the 602(a) storage routine, and addition of Taylor Park <br />Reservoi r. <br /> <br />Item 2 - Developing a Method of Characterizing Each Strategy <br /> <br />Completed. Item 2 consisted of developing a method of operating the system <br />that would yield a number of alternative operating strategies. Each alternative <br />operating strategy is characterized by the probability of not having to make <br />flood control releases. The method developed calculates planned releases <br />from Lakes Powell and Mead in order to avoid flood control releases. <br /> <br />Item 3 - Defining Feasible Alternative Operating Strategies <br /> <br />Completed. Item 3 consisted of developing a basic simulation model containing <br />the method of operating the system developed in item 2. This small model <br />was used to identify a number of feasible alternative operating strategies <br />that would be evaluated by the large CRSM (Colorado River Simulation MOdel). <br />The feasible strategies chosen represent a wide range of release levels which <br />appeared to offer some advantages with respect to the parameters modeled by <br />the small model (releases, end of study contents, power generation, etc.). <br /> <br />Item 4 - Developing a System for Evaluating Strategies <br /> <br />Completed. The first part of item 4 was the development of computer code <br />for the CRSM that would model the method of operating the system developed <br />in items 2 and 3. <br /> <br />The second part of thi s item was the development of a system for evaluating <br />the feasible alternative operating strategies. The system developed consists <br />of imposing two different depletion schedules and 17 different hydrologic <br />sequences on four alternative strategies and one base case strategy. <br /> <br />The third part of this item was the indentification of parameters that need <br />to be output and development of computer programs to output the tables and <br />plots that will display the parameters in the final report. <br />
