assistance was provided so roundtable members across the state could atte nd a
groundwater workshop, a west slope roundtable caucus, water conservation workshops,
and a conference on the role of research and higher education in basin - wide water needs
assessments. In 2007, the State will continue to assist roundtable member part icipation in
these types of events as resources allow .

Education
In 2006, the roundtables dedicated a large amount of their time to education. This
achieved several purposes such as increasing the basic water knowledge of the members,
learning about wate r issues in all parts of their basin, bonding as a roundtable, and
assessing existing water information/data. In 2007, the roundtables will continue with
their education agendas. This will involve:
?

Self - education – continuing to educate themselves about important water issues
within their basin, and serving as forum for education and debate regarding water
issues;
?

Cross roundtable and statewide education – learning about and addressing issues
that involve more than one basin/roundtable, as well as educati ng other
roundtables and the IBCC on the major water issues within their basin; and
?

Public education – Communicating to the public the activities of the roundtable
and involving the larger public in the education and debate regarding water needs
and potent ial methods for meeting those needs.

In 2006, support for the roundtables’ education activities primarily involved supporting
the roundtable meetings (described above) and providing materials. Materials provided
for roundtable education included: a) a no tebook for each roundtable members of basic
water information created by the Colorado Foundation for Water Education; b) SWSI
materials, reports, and presentations; c) a groundwater atlas and artificial recharge study
created by CGS; d) a CSU report on bel iefs and values on water; and f) various other
basin specific materials.

In 2007, the roundtables’ education agendas will continue to be supported through
meeting logistics and where appropriate providing additional educational materials.
Furthermore , the IBCC Public Education, Participation, and Outreach Working Group
will be providing leadership and coordination for the program’s education and public
involvement efforts. These efforts include re - designing the program’s website, compiling
information on existing water education efforts throughout the state, and assisting within
roundtable and cross roundtable education (see the IBCC section below for details).
Finally, CSU Cooperative Extension Services has proposed a series of activities to help
the roundtables with their public education and outreach efforts. CSU is refining this
proposal in cooperation with the State and the IBCC Working Group and the proposal
may be implemented depending upon this feedback and refinement .

Basin - Wide Water Needs A ssessment
A second activity roundtables will devote substantial time to in 2007 is developing their
basin - wide water needs assessments . Each roundtable is charged with developing a
basin - wide water needs assessment which is to consist of four parts:
3
