Technical Support for the Basin Roundtables – Needs Assessment
Work Plan Development and Project Management Assistance

1) Basin - wide – Review, refine, and/or confirm the estimate of current and future
water demands and supply for the smaller muni cipalities, water districts and
domestic water companies in the Gunnison Basin
2) Basin - wide – Review and refine the estimate of current and future rural domestic
demands and supply in the Gunnison Basin.
3) Basin - wide – Identify vulnerabilities to water s upply shortages for Gunnison Basin
municipalities.
4) Basin - wide – Perform an independent review of the agricultural shortages
identified in the SWSI report by enhancing spatial resolution, and extending the
period of record to include the recent extremely dry period of 2002 - 2004.
5) Basin - wide – Review and refine the analysis of existing physically and legally
available water supplies in the Gunnison Basin prepared by SWSI
6) Sub - basin Specific: Upper Gunnison – Review, refine, and/or confirm the estimate
of future snowmaking demands in the Upper Gunnison Basin.
In addition, the Gunnison B asin R oundtable requested that a coordinated statewide
effort be made to identify and release existing databases which will be used to
describe environmental and recreatio nal needs for each of the roundtables. The
roundtable requested that t he use of this information should be coordinated with the
development and release of the SWSI 2 results.

During March 2007 through June 30, 2007 the Consultant will address Task 1, Task 2,
Task 3 and Task 6. Based on funding constraints, Task 2 will not fully be completed
but elements will be discussed with the needs assessment s ubcommittee to further
refine the elements to be completed under this task.
1) Basin - wide – Review, refine, and/or confirm the estimate of current and future
water demands and supply for the smaller municipalities, water districts and
domestic water compan ies in the Gunnison Basin
The Consultant will investigate many of the smaller municipal areas of the Gunnison
Basin with respect to present and future water use. For example, some small
communities, including, but not limited to, the small municipalities a nd small
domestic water companies in the sub - basins of Surface Creek (Orchard City,
Cedaredge, Colby, etc.), North Fork (Hotchkiss, Paonia, Rodgers Mesa, Bone Mesa,
Lazear, etc.), Smith Fork (Crawford), Upper Gunnison (Mt. Crested Butte, Pitkin, etc.)
