looking at how to use these roundtables to develop water

projects.

On page 3 of the bill, lines 20 through 27, we talked about

grants for environmental compliance, feasibility studies,

technical assistance. And then Representative Penry just

mentioned the structural and non-structural water projects or

activities, including such things as conservation.

I would be very nervous to put an instream flow provlslon

In this bill that would basically change the intent of SWSI and

the 1177 roundtables from more of a water supply for future

needs to an environmental instream flow program.

Chairperson Curry: Ms. Bolton?

Ms. Bolton: Representative Gardner, I think that the 1177

process--and I'm trying to figure out how to actually word this

because I'm not sure.

I want to make sense and it's not making

sense In my head.

The second stage of SWSI looks at the environmental side of

lssues. And I think we would simply like to see that

environmental lssues are specifically called out as something

that this money could be used for. Not that we are, you know--

it specifically says in the bill that this is a--not an

exhaustive list by any stretch of the imagination. We would

just like to see environmental lssues included in the discussion

as we proceed forward.

- 11 -
