South Platte Roundtable, HB1177 Process, June 13, 2006 <br />What are our Values Pertinent to the SWSI Objectives? <br />Notes from Breakout Groups Compiled by MaryLou Smith, Aqua Engineering, Inc. <br /> <br />Sustainability Meet Municipal and Industrial Demand s <br /> <br />For the Basic Good of The People <br />Water is a public good <br />Important for health, safety and sanitation <br />Family Stability <br />Sustainable, livable environment <br /> <br />For Economic Reasons <br />Crucial for vibrant economy <br />Economic stability <br />We have economy and population tha t demand an H2O supply; <br />historic dependency on this <br />Large economic engine presents huge challenges <br /> <br />For What Uses? <br />People come first in basic needs <br />Green lawns and trees <br />Aesthetics - attractive green areas <br />Continue present quality of life <br />Continue to look like “Colorado” <br />Quality of life: swimming pools, ability to wash cars, drink a Budweiser <br />To meet demands <br />Demands: there is a difference between need and want, what is sustainable? <br />Conditions determine “need” <br />Indoor needs to be treated differently than out door use <br /> <br />What About Growth? <br />Growth is unsustainable growth if it exceeds water supply <br />Should the capacity of water resources be a factor? <br />M&I needs to find ways to provide for growth <br />Finding solution/ways to address growth for the future (sustainably) <br />Healthy rate of growth - jobs, housing, etc. <br />Sustainability is our future <br />Market has a role <br /> <br />Who Pays? <br />Users of water should pay their proportional share <br /> <br />What about Conservation? <br />Keeping conservation in mind <br />Finding ways to incorporate conservation <br />Mor e efficiency will be needed <br />With conservation in vogue, M&I sustainability can happen <br /> <br />
