.

WORK ITEM I

.

Cleaning Debris and Trash From Channel

.

This work item consists of picking up and disposing of all litter, trash and debris within the
normal debris removal limits of the normal channel and adjacent Right-of-Way and such other
areas as indicated on work limit drawings, or as required by field conditions during the execution
of other work items. Material to be picked up and removed shall include, but not be limited to,
the following provided it is 4-inches or larger in its largest dimension in size: tires, shopping
carts, automobile parts, barrels, trees and tree limbs, paper, plastic and other trash. All of this
material, if visible and exposed, is included in the items to be picked up.

.

.

Whenever a tree or other item, or a portion thereof, has fallen into the normal debris
removal limits, the entire item shall be removed as part of the original CONTRACT, unless said
item cannot be removed by a 5-ton winch. Debris that is in that portion of any drainage outfall or
tributary located within the normal debris removal limits also shall be removed under this work
item.

.

The South Platte Park is located within the reach of the South Platte River between C-470
and the Brown Ditch diversion structure and boat chutes (mile marker 13.5). Park policy dictates
that all trees shall remain in the river channel; therefore, CONTRACTOR shall leave trees and
tree limbs located within the river channel within this reach. All other debris and trash shall be
handled as described in the paragraph above.

.

Material removed from the channel shall nQ1 be stockpil~d any closer than 10 feet to the
edge of the concrete recreational trail. All debris stockpiled for purposes of drying shall be
removed and hauled off by 5 p.m. of each work day. Any mud, dirt, debris, or other material that
is deposited onto the trail during the execution of this contract shall be thoroughly removed from
the trail surface by 5 p.m. of each work day.

.

This work item does not include the work needed for the additional clean-up of the reaches
of the South Platte River in which a major storm occurs (major storm is defined as peak flows in
the river having a return period of 5-years or greater). If a regularly scheduled debris removal
occurs after a major storm, CONTRACTOR may receive additional compensation for the debris
removal on only the portions of the South Platte River that experienced the major storm. The
CONTRACTOR must be able to substantiate a claim for additional cleanup work with the
DISTRICT before any of this additional work is initiated. The following table identifies the 5-
year event at various locations on the South Platte River.

.

.

REACH NO.
1
2
3
4
5

LOCATION
Chatfield Dam to Cherry Creek
Cherry Creek to 19th St. Gauge
19th Street to Clear Creek
Clear Creek to Henderson Rd.
Henderson Rd. to Baseline Rd.

5-YEAR FLOW
5,000 cfs
6,700 cfs
6,700 cfs
7,800 cfs
7,600 cfs

.

27
