.

8. FUNDING SOURCES

At a meeting held with the ditch owners on January 22, 1999, they indicated that they would be
prepared to borrow from Colorado Water Conservation Board approximately $300,000 as their
share of th~ project cost.
The Upper Yampa Water District has engaged the service of Kogovsek and Associates to pursue
a grant from a federal agency concerned with the kind of stream degradation the temporary
gravel diversions cause. A likely agency is the Army Corps of Engineers. The request is
$1,500,000. The Colorado River Water Conservation District is vitally interested in eliminating
these gravel dams and will be counted on for a grant of $15,000, a figure they donated in the past
for similar but smaller projects. The Nature Conservancy, owner of the Marshall-Roberts ditch,
is being asked to commit to $100,000. Finally, the District will fund the balance provided its
contribution does not exceed 75% of the total cost. .

It should be noted that NRCS and the Bureau of Reclamation would and have contributed .
engineering and field surveying with an estimated worth of25% of the construction cost or
approximately $725,000. The Bureau of Reclamation has contributed $50,000 in field surveys.

Summary:
RanchersIDitch owners
The Nature Conservancy
Colorado River Conservation District
Federal Grant
Upper Yampa District

Alternative V
$ 300,000
$ 100,000
$ 15,000
$1,500,000
$1.073.000
$2,988,000

Alternative IIA
$ 300,000
$ 100,000
$ 15,000
$1,500,000
$ 647.000
$2,562,000

e

9.
