Questions and Comments from the floor <br />Steve V – is post C ompact storage an issue? <br />Kelly – Yes <br />John S – Dam narrow? <br />Kelly – Yes, will raise on downstream side <br />John S – Evaporation? <br />Kelly – Evaporation at Rio Grande – 1’; Elephant Butte – 6’ <br />Ray W – Will RGDSS answer administrative questions regarding storage; <br />user s will require assurance that nobody is getting “hosed” Are there tools <br />available? <br />Kelly – we will be working with the State and the CWCB to develop a <br />modeling tool. <br />John S – would there be less pressure in building another dam? <br />Kelly – Permitting a new d am would be difficult at best. <br />Charlie Speilman – would the “fens” be an issue? <br />Kelly – Shouldn’t be – identified fen would be 10’ above the high water line <br />with a 10,000 ft enlargement <br />Charlie S – would the landslide area be an issue with a 10,000 ft <br />enla rgement? <br />Kelly – when mapped, we’ll find out. <br />Travis – higher carryovers create landslide problems. <br />John S – How would this be financed? <br />Kelly – with Grant monies <br />Mike G – If “fatal flaws” prove to be a problem, where do we go from there? <br />Kelly – Rehab the current dam and spillway and forget the enlargement. <br />Travis – Phase I addresses fatal flaw questions, parallels SWSI <br />recommendations, still many questions. <br />Doug S – This project would be good use of roundtable monies; if the <br />reservoir could be improved an d made more useable. Would benefit the <br />whole Valley – he would support. <br />Zeke Ward – Fisheries of the Rio Grande need to be addressed <br />Travis – This was addressed by SWSI – Phase II will address the non - <br />consumptive needs in Hinsdale and Mineral Counties; th is is a big component <br />of Phase II <br />Mike Gibson – Rio Grande Restoration is also an issue – fisheries raised; flow <br />change potential for fisheries <br />Ray Wright – Encroachment issue – wilderness area? <br />Kelly – the 10’ raise of the dam will eliminate that issue <br />Ci ndy Medina – Outreach program for stakeholders? <br />Travis – Outreach for stakeholders will be expanded on – have a list – need a <br />few more – others to be included <br />Eric Hecox – Is the local environmental community supportive? Wetlands? <br />Travis – Rio not here, b ut environmental community generally supportive.
