PROJECT LIST <br />— add ing today’s proposal to our list — and review next month in depth, <br />prioritize them , and then seek support from CDM to move these projects forward — <br />anyone with project ideas can call or e - mail Mike G. with suggestions <br /> <br />- one project addresses additional reservoirs and role of storage in our basin and <br />meeting our sustainability issues — a letter will be going out to all Res ervoir companies <br />to ask if willing to participate in an inventory <br /> <br />Doug — talked ab out this before, if we can get res ervoirs up to full storage, can maybe <br />retime compact deliveries, etc. and provide multiple benefits <br /> <br />Presentation: Ji m Harring ton - Proposal for Accele rated Remediation of <br />Summitville Mine <br /> <br />- presented on means of remediatio n using SLV products <br /> <br />R ecord of Decision (ROD) was to build a treatment plant at high expense <br />Collecting and treating water at a location like Su mmitville is very difficult — ma n y non - <br />point sources that make it past the collection system — no matter how well t reated, <br />cannot be adequate -- non - point sources overwhelm treatment plant <br /> <br />Alexco — seeks to treat groundwater that evades treatment <br />- patents use ag products to immobilize metals from ground water <br />- by treating in place, can dramatically reduce cost <br />- possibl y use potato waste <br />- proposing pilot program to create a biological system to remove heavy metals, address <br />seepage problem of acid drainage, CO2 displaces oxygen which causes acid <br />- capture seepa ge water and reinject for treat ment <br /> <br />Is this proven technolog y ? — have received American Academy of Env ironmental <br />Engineering award for best engineering in US <br /> <br />Creates more stable sediments <br /> <br />Direct benefits to SLV — would purchase mil lions cwt of potatoes <br />Would spend about $8 mill ion on carbon sources over life of proj ect — multiplier <br />benefits — provide jobs in Valley, not at mine, <br /> <br />ROD for Summitville — require capture of 405 AF of water – thinks that treatment of <br />water at source will benefit stream in times of stress and drought — want to look at these <br />impacts in pilot <br /> <br />Pilo t proposal — will cost about $900,000 total — been told that CDPA and EPA support <br />approach — EPA cannot fund with out a state match – money from state would generate <br />money from feds <br /> <br /> Page 6 of 8 RGB RT Minutes <br /> <br /> March 13, 2007 <br />
