I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

SECTION V
FORMULATION OF ALTERNATES

INTRODUCTION

The following significant conclusions relative to Pinewood Springs Water District's raw water supply
and treatment facilities are derived from Sections III and IV of this report:

1. Raw water storage reservoirs need to hold between 20- and 40- acre-feet of water, be filled
at approximately 100 gpm, and processed at 50 gpm to meet the needs of the service area.
2. Existing raw water storage and treatment facilities are inadequate to meet these needs.
3. Existing water treatment facilities cannot meet the 50 gpm requirement without exceeding
specified operating limits. The likely result will be an inability to comply with current public
health requirements.
4. The District has only been able to meet its needs in the past three years by hauling water at
great cost.

INITIAL PROJECT CAPACITY

The projected capacities for the raw water storage reservoirs and sites pre-selected by the District
range from 20 to "at leasf 30 acre-feet. Total project costs are estimated accordingly. To obtain a
good comparison of the altematives, this Planning Document includes a comparison of costs
predicted per acre-foot of storage.

Expanded water treatment plant capacity is set as described in Section III. It is possible for this
capacity to be obtained using one larger or two smaller filtration trains. Both possibilities are
considered when evaluating the Altemates outlined in this Section.

The facilities as sized will be sufficient to meet the growth projections contained in Reference 1 for
full build-out. They will be capable of serving a community of 350 EQR.

1
