Issues <br />in Grand Valley: <br /> <br />There are six irrigation entities in Grand Valley - one off of the Gunnison River and five off <br />of the Colorado River; of the five Colorado River users: <br /> <br />Two are not attached to ground, so the water rights may be sold independently from <br />land. <br /> <br />Three are districts where water is attached to ground. One of these is Grand Valley <br />Water User's Association - water is attached to land and is sold when land is sold. <br /> <br />These five entities have senior rights. In 1881 the Ute Indians moved out of the Grand <br />Valley. Grand Valley Water Users Association rights date back to: <br /> <br />1882 500 CFS water right <br />1914 189 CFS water right <br /> <br />Grand Valley Water User's Association is 101 years old. It is the youngest of the five <br />associations. <br /> <br />Orchard Mesa Irrigation District uses hydraulic pumps to lift the water to Orchard Mesa. <br />High1ine Canal is 55 miles long and 19 miles are lined with concrete.
