I
I
I
I
Town of Keensburg - Raw Water Pipeline and Well Purchase
I
I
I
I
!

I
I
I
The Town of Keenesburg is located in Weld C~unty 30 miles north of Denver on 1-76.
The population is 1100, and the Town currently serves about 461 water taps. The water
supply comes from 5 wells that draw water frob the Laramie - Fox Hills aquifer, and
I
have a total capacity of 221 acre-feet per year. The Town's well water is pumped
I
directly into the distribution system, which resplts in some users not receiving proper
disinfection contact time. The Town has undertaken a separate project that will allow
I
well water to be pumped to the water storage tlmk prior to being delivered to
I
distribution. The proposed project with CWCa funds, includes purchase of 139.6 AF of
well water rights in the Lost Creek Groundwat~r Basin, and construction of 5.5 miles of
pipeline to the Town. The purpose of the projJct is to improve the water quality by
I
blending the new water with the existing Laraf1lie-Fox Hills water. Blending the water
has been evaluated, and providing a 50%-50% Jjlend of the two waters shows that the
SAR ratio drops below 10, and the fluoride lev~l drops to approximately 1.5 mg/l, below
the MCL of 2 mg/l. The well and water rights purchase has been completed. The
Town has completed all the pipeline work and is currently working on the connection to
I
the storage tank. Project completion is anticipated in July of 2007.
I
27. This $400,000 project involves
rehabilitation of the outlet structure and spillway. These improvements will eliminate
the current storage restrictions imposed by the State Engineers Office. Project
construction has been awarded to Zak Dirt, Lon~mont, Colorado, who completed
approximately 75% of the work. The project is anticipated to be complete by July of
2007.
