Bureau of Reblamation released a Draft Planning <br />I <br />Report and Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Navajo-Gallup Water Supply <br />I <br />Project for review and comment on March 30, 4007. The proposed project would deplete <br />approximately 35,893 acre-feet of water annualiy from the San Juan River (Navajo <br />Nation 27,193 acre-feet, Jicarilla Apache Nation! 1,200 acre-feet and City of Gallup 7,500 <br />acre-feet). The Preferred Alternative would di~ert water downstream of Fruitland, New <br />Mexico, just above the existing Public Service Company of New Mexico diversion <br />I <br />structure, treat it to drinking water standards ~d deliver it to Navajo Chapters and <br />communities south of River. The estimated cost of the Project is $716,100,000 based on <br />March 2005 dollars. Public meetings will be he* May 22-24, 2007 in Gallup, <br />Crownpoint and the St. Michael's and on June 5r6, 2007 in Shiprock and Farmington <br />respectively. Comments are due June 28, 2007. More information is available on the <br />USBR-Upper Colorado Region web Page. i <br />I <br />i <br />I <br />, <br /> <br />i <br />Proposed Long Hollow Reservoir - Operati~g MOA concerning fishery <br />bypasses: The La Plata Water Conservancy District intends to construct Long Hollow <br />Reservoir ("LHR"), an on-stream Reservoir, wit~ a planned capacity of 5,400 acre-feet, <br />on Long Hollow, a tributary to the La Plata Rivei. The reservoir site is approximately 22 <br />miles southwest of Durango, Colorado. In order Ito maintain habitat for Colorado-listed <br />native aquatic species of concern, in this instancelprimarily the round tail chub (also <br />listed as an endangered fish in New Mexico), in t~e La Plata River below its confluence <br />with Long Hollow a flow of 4 cis has been deterrrlined by the CDOW to be appropriate. <br />As part of the operating plan for LHR, criteria we~e developed to provide for fishery <br />flows during the La Plata River Compact Non-Cobpact period (December 1 through <br />February 14).
