Instream and flat water fishing and boating <br />. Reservoirs have enhanced environment by stabilizing flows in many streams <br />and providing late season water where there was very little or no natural <br />flow. <br /> <br />Retirement Economy <br /> <br />Some influx of retirees <br />"lifestyle ranchers" <br />Not as pronounced as in Grand Mesa area. <br /> <br />Water Developtnent: Federal <br /> <br />Paonia Reservoir <br />CRSP participating project - completed in 1962; <br />water rights appropriated 1935; adjudicated in 1954. <br />Original storage app. 18000 af now down to ~15000 AF due to sedimentation. <br />Irrigates 15000 acres <br />NFWCD formed in 1941 to administer and contract for the Paonia project. Fire Mtn Canal <br />Company operates the reservoir by contract. <br /> <br />Water Developtnent - Private <br /> <br />Private ditch and reservoir companies <br />Theses companies can have up to 27 small reservoirs <br />With capacity aging, built in early 1900's to 1960's. <br />
