The 26th Avenue Crossing culvert and drop structure have been
constructed and are designed to contain the lOO-year floodflow
(Reference 17). The pond east of 47th Street will have little
effect on the lOO-year peak flow.

Three adjacent detention ponds on Elmers Twamile Creek were
constructed by the City to control runoff. These ponds are located
just south of Iris Avenue behind the K-Mart store. These ponds
will attenuate the lOO-year peak flood discharge from 615 to
510 cfs.

A small detention/siltation pond on Twamile Creek just upstream of
Linden Avenue will control moderate flows; however, it does not
attenuate the lOO-year peak floodflow.

Flood protection measures along Skunk Creek consist of several
detention/siltation ponds OD the u.s. Bureau of Standards property
west of Broadway and the channelization of the stream between
Morehead Avenue and u.s. Highway 36. The detention ponds are small
and silted in and, therefore, were not modeled.

The improved Bear Canyon Creek channel along Table Mesa Drive from
Broadway to Gillespie Street (upstream Limit of Detailed Study)
will efficiently convey moderate floodflow downstream; however,
major storms will continue t cause flooding problems. The channel
improvements in Martin Park completed under a recent UDFeD
maintenance project were not designed to contain the lOO-year
floodflow in the channel (Reference 24).

Flood protection measures along Goose Creek include channelization
of North and South Goose Creek.

Flood protection measures along Dry Creek include channelization
and construction of a new bridge at Flatirons Parkway
(Reference 25).

Flood protection measures along Fou~le Canyon Creek include
channelization through the Palo Park Subdivision (Reference 26).

No flood protection structures or measures exist or are planned for
the flooding sources of Jamestown.

No flood protection structures exist or are planned within and
adjacent to the City of Lafayette. The City of Lafayette has
building ordinances along the floodplains which prohibit certain
types of construction.

There is little evidence of flood protection measures along the
study segment of St. Vrain Creek in the Town of Lyons, except the
channelization between Sunset Street and the Colorado and Southern
Railroad Bridge. There is a line of low levees along the trailer
park on the south side of this segment. There are three dams in
the upper mountain segments of St. Vrain Creek. Button Rock Dam
was completed on North St. Vrain Creek in 1969, 6 miles west of

31
