From downtown Alamosa, head east on Main Street and follow the local streets
down to the river along the railroad tracks. The headgate is on the upstream
side of a culvert under the railroad tracks.

Repair(s) Needed: The river bank has historically failed on the north side of the diversion dam, so
the river bank needs to be fortified in this area. There is evidence of piping along the outlet pipe of
the slide gate on the diversion dam that needs to be repaired and prevented.

Upstream Configuration: There is a corrugated sheet metal diversion dam with a 20' steel weir and
20' radial gate that spans the river and directs river flow to a short feeder channel that flows to the
headgate. There is a log trash boom across the upstream end of the feeder channel.

Comments: The water commissioner said that the owners of this structure have their own
contracting business and have heavy earth moving equipment that they use to frequently repair the
diversion dam and adjacent river banks. The diversion dam and headgate structures appear to be in
good condition, but as stated above the river banks need to be fortified.
