Designation and appI'oval of the existing floodplain <br />mapping for your community would enhance your ability to regulate the lOO-year floodplains more effectively. <br />State enabling law for local zoning and subdivision rqulation requires that technical inJOrmation used for <br />regulation of floodpronc areas be desi&oated and approved by the CWCB. Designation ud approval of the <br />floodplain mapping by me CWCB would provide benefits by helping the community to aercise its zoning <br />powers and to help reduce flood risks to new development in the identified floodplain. <br /> <br />The "Flood IDSUl'aDte Snady, City of Orchard City, Color~ It da~ Janwuy 16, 1981 that was prepared by <br />FEMA includes approximate and/or - detailed floodplain information for a 1lU1Dber .of stmlmS in your <br />comnwnity_ On your behalf and at no expense to 1hc community, the CWCB is proposing p)ssibl~ desi~on <br />and approval of the Flood Insurance Study at i~ September 2004 Board meeting. <br /> <br />The CWCB may consider the designation and approval of floodplain information eitha bY request of a <br />community or by acting on its own initi8tive. The first method, which is J11O(e prefc:rabk. requires that we <br />receive a letter of request from YOl.l prior to the scheduled Board meeting. We woQ]d appredate it if you could <br />send us a request letter using the attached "sample request letter" as a guide. <br /> <br />The enginetring consulting firm of Lov~ &: Associates, under contract to ~ CWCB, will be providing <br />technical assistance with me floodplain review and designation process. A lencr is attllc:hed from Love & <br />Asso~s outlining some preliminary data needs and items they wish to discuss with you. An engineer with <br />love.& Associates will be contacting you in the near future to discuss the designation pro.:~s and to answer <br />any questions you may have about your floodplain information.
