<br />Attachment A 'Vater Education Provider Meeting <br />October 16, 2001 <br /> <br />Input for 'Vater Education Foundation <br /> <br />Initial questions/comments: <br />-Need clear sense of organization of goals/steps <br />-How does this relate to other foundations/organizations? <br />-How can this be a win/win for us and our organizations? <br />-Want to avoid re-inventing the wheel <br />-Want information sharing <br />-How can we reach entire state? <br />-Should be a broad-based organization combining a variety of groups, <br />resources and agencies <br />-Produce short, engaging programs in addition to brochures, maps etc. <br />-Raise funds - broad funding base is primary <br />-Increase awareness of fresh water issues; start with kids and then move <br />to adults <br />-Best outcome: <br />-sustainable funding <br />-inclusive board <br />-concentrate on K-12 and adult education <br /> <br />1. How should a foundation be structured? Comments <br />Choice of executive director is crucial. Needs to have big picture <br />(political etc.), have excellent people and management skills <br />Structure should include board, advisors, volunteers, executive director <br />and staff. <br />Set up as a nonprofit organization - may want membership or federation <br /> <br />2. What should the goals be? Comments from 2 groups <br />a. Coordinate Colorado water education <br />-review education materials and programs <br />-pilot water education materials <br />-refine education materials <br />-disseminate education materials <br />b. Coordinate decision support system for policy makers <br />-provide scientific support/science-based information <br />d. Develop a system of coordinated media relations <br /> <br />'7 <br />
