<br />ARTICLE IV
<br />PURPOSES
<br />
<br />4.1. The purposes for which the Corporation is organized are as follows:
<br />
<br />(a) To own, hold, constitute, operate, maintain, control, and manage the canal and
<br />reservoir system hereinafter described;
<br />
<br />(b) To divert, appropriate, and acquire water for irrigation, domestic, and manufacturing
<br />purposes from the Purgatoire River, also known as the Las Animas River, the Leitensdorfer arroyo,
<br />the Chicosa arroyo and other arroyos and daws tributary to the said Las Animas River; to store said
<br />water In reservoirs, basins, and other places; to carry, convey, and distribute said water to the lands
<br />lying under said canal and reservoir system, through and by means of canals, ditches, laterals, pipe
<br />lines, conduits, and other devices. The said canal and reservoir system being more particularly
<br />described as follows:

<br />The headgate is located on the North bank of the Purgatoire River in Section 33,
<br />Township 32 South of Range 63 West of the Sixth Principal Meridian, Las Animas County,
<br />Colorado, from whence the intake ditch runs in a general Northeasterly direction through
<br />townships 32 and 3 I South of Range 63 West, to the reservoir hereinafter referred to, thence
<br />on in a general Northeasterly direction through townships 31 South of Range 62 West and
<br />Township 31 and 30 South of Range 61 West, all in Las Animas County, Colorado;
<br />
<br />Also the reservoirs and ditches that are connected with the aforesaid canal system.,
<br />in accordance with the plats and field notes of said canal and reservoir duly filed in the
<br />office of the State Engineer of the State of Colorado, in the City of Denver, on the 21 st day
<br />of February, 1908, by T. S. Holland, D. R. Hindman, and J. S. Grisham, which more
<br />specifically describes the location of said canal and above mentioned reservoirs;
<br />
<br />(c) To acquire all lands, rights of way, ditches, canals, laterals, reservoirs, and reservoir
<br />sites, necessary to the use and operation of said canal and reservoir system, and of the rights,
<br />privileges, franchises, and appropriations connected therewith;
<br />
<br />(d) To contract with any person, corporation or association for the storage and carriage
<br />of water or for rights of way therefor;
<br />
<br />(e) To acquire by gift, grant, devise or otherwise all real and personal property usual
<br />and necessary in the conduct of the business for which said company is incorporated and do any and
<br />all things necessary and usual in the diversion and use of water for irrigation, domestic or
<br />manufacturing purposes;
<br />
<br />(f) To buy, sell, rent, lease, convey, exchange, barter, and generally deal in water, water
<br />rights, priorities of right to the use of water, appropriations, franchises, rights of way, and privileges
<br />appertaining to water and water rights;
<br />
<br />(g) To buy, own, sell, exchange, lease, and generally deal in land, tenements,
<br />hereditaments, and real properties; to make and obtain loans on real estate, improved or unimproved,
<br />and to supervise, manage, and protect such property and loans and all interests and claims affecting
<br />
