CWCB Construction Fund Grant Application
Grand Valley Water Management Project

8

miles of the canal, beginning at Big Salt Wash. Except for the addition of automation devices, no
changes are needed to these 9 checks.

Pump Station. Studies estimate that an additional 11,000 acre-feet could be saved by the
installation of a pump station at Highline Lake. These savings would result from improved ability
to balance irrigation supply and demand. Water in excess of irrigation demands would be
temporarily stored in Highline Lake and pumped into the canal to meet peak demands. Operation
of this new pump station would cause changes in water levels at Highline Lake State Park. The
Colorado Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation have been consulted and are receptive to
cooperating in this initiative.

Bypass. This pipeline would provide increased flexibility to spill unneeded irrigation water
diverted into the canal at the Grand Valley Project Diversion Dam back to the IS-mile reach.
This would require installing a pipeline from the canal to the river, just east of Palisade. Obtaining
easements for this pipeline would require approval oflandowners.

Automation Devices. To enable the GVWUA to more efficiently operate the improved canal
system, automated controls would be needed. Computer hardware, software and communication
systems would be provided.

6. Will the acquisition of additional water rights be necessary?
YES _ NO ----X-.
