,.

...~-
, "'"
'./>."
J .

..;.;''''-'"... .

. .-,',..:.'....'.,.

..

.

2) Upgrade of the Water Treatment Capaciw

The ultimate requireOlent for water treatment was based on 350 EDU using
200 gallons -per day per EDU,as.a1lowed by the District's Water Augmentat-
ion Plan, which amounts, to 70,000 ga1l~ per day, or approxiniately 50 gpm.

As indicated earlierinpait "C" of the "EXISTING FACH.lTIES" section of
this report, the capacity of ~e existing micro-filtration plant is rated from 32
gpm to 40 gpm, depending on the temperature of the raw water being treated.
Using 32 gpm as the controlling rate, and considering .the available rated ca-
pacities of possible additional units, as well as overall operating effiCiency, it .
was decided to add another unit at the same rating as the original to satisfy the
total requirement of 50 gpm. Ot was, not considered cost effective to use a
" smaller 18 gpm unit.) ; .

Consistent with.this approach, a single unit capable of approximately 64 gpm .
, waS contemplated in ALTERNATE "B" of the Planning Document, which.
involves the construction. of a new treatment plant at Crescent Lake, as de-'
scribed in Section VI of the Document.

3) Puml'ing Facilities

" .

The raw water pump stations will be fitted with duplex pumps each capable of
, delivering 100 gpm against the respective total dynamic head developed in
. each of the alternates. This particular pumping rate was developed based on
the assumed scenario described in Section ill of the Planning Document
whereby it is planned that when the River is ronning, a total of 150 gpm will
be withdrawn, with 50 gpm going directly to the treatrilent plant and the re-
maining 100 gpm going to storage, for ultimate return to the plant when the
. River is dry. This will.be subject to confnmationpending results from a water'
availability study d~fullng how much time would be a'V8.ilable to the District to
withdraw this higher rate from the.River. H such" time is determined by the
study to be less ~ originally estimate~ this pump~g rate wQ~dincrease.

At present, only single phase power is available at the existing treatment plant
site, and at the Crescent Lake site, which has been sufficient thus far for the
current horsepower loading. However, because it is' anticipated that the' facili-
ties being considered in the Alternates in the Planning Document will require
significantly higher horsepower, an allowance was made in the respective cost
estimates to cover the cost of extending three phase .power to these sites. .

Pump stations will be constructed of 3000 psi/28 day reinforced concrete.

17
