3, Construct a recharge pond filled using a recharge well:

This alternative would consist of drilling one well used to
pump water into a recharge pond, This system, as used on the
Tamarack Ranch, pumps water during the winter months when
there is generally not a call on the river and places water
in a pond for re-timing to the river. The water from the
pond is returned to the river by underground percolation
which due to a time delayed effect causes the majority of
this water to show up in the river during the summer time.
This is the time when the Quint farm has depletions that
need to be offset with augmentation water. The water
returned to the river during the winter also has potential
value for endangered species issues facing the State of
Colorado, The development of a recharge pond also provides
habitat for migratory waterfowl, The cost of this
alternative is $95,000.

The Selected Project

Victor Quint plans to construct alternative #3. Features of this
alternative are as follows:

Drill one well for pumping water into a recharge pond. The
well would pump up to a maximum rate of 3000 gpm. This would
produce up to 1200 acre feet annually from the well. The
well would be drilled within 100 feet of the South Platte
River.

The recharge pond will be placed on a location of the Quint
farm not currently being used to raise crops, The pond will
be located near a county road for easy accessibility,

Piping will be used to convey water from the well to the
recharge pond, Piping will be 18 inches in diameter. The
piping will be buried,

The well will be equipped with a proper measuring device,

The general locations of these features are shown in Appendix B.

Feasibility Study
Victor Quint
Aug Project
July 2003

5
