ARAPAHOE COUNTY WATER AND WASTEWATER AUTHORITY

SECTION 2
WATER USE AND FORECAST DEMAND

This section focuses on estimating the future water needs and demands of ACWW A and
identifying potential gaps in the existing water supply system. The information in this section
was largely tal(en from previous master plans and from projections developed in the planning for
the JWPP.

2.1 CURRENT WATER USE

Current water use in the ACWW A service area can be brol(en down into a variety of categories.
An understanding of the types of customers is important to aid in identifying appropriate
conservation measures and programs. The following sections characterize water use by system
customers.

2.1.1 Potable and Non-potable Supplies

Currently, ACWW A provides reclaimed water for the Valley Country Club at a maximum daily
rate of 440,000 gpd, with a maximum contractual supply of 400 acre-feet per year. All other
demands are supplied by the potable water system of groundwater wells.

2.1.2 Customer Classes

ACWW A classifies two main types of customers, residential and non-residential. Residential
water sales can be further brol(en down into two types: single-family and multi-family. The
Authority has approximately 1,125 residential connections with single-family connections
accounting for 135 million gallons of annual water usage and 120 million gallons of multi - family
annual water usage. Multi-family developments must have two taps, one for indoor water use
and one for irrigation water use. The irrigation demand accounts for approximately 35% of the
annual water use at multi-family developments.

Water demands in ACWW A are somewhat different than the typical municipality due to the high
percentage of commercial (non-residential) water use. The non-residential component of
ACWW A's system includes approximately 835 taps and accounts for nearly 63% of the
Authority's annual water demand. Similar to the multi-family residential system, commercial
taps in the ACWW A service area must have a separate tap for irrigation water use. Of the total
non-residential water use, 63% of the water use is for irrigation.

2.1.3 Large Customers

Based on previous water meter readings the customers accounting for the largest amounts of
water use were identified. These customers are summarized in Table 2-1. Their water use is
presented on both a total and percentage basis.

Richard P.
