<br />lo <br /> <br /> <br />This is a depiction of the immediate area just below Heddles Bridge in <br />1912. The river had not down-cut at that time, and the river was braided <br />into two separate channels. The 1912 channel is colored blue. <br /> <br />Although the bed material is covered with water in the 1912 pictures of <br />the area there is a lot that can be stated about the bed material. The <br />bedload can be evaluated by looking at the turbidity in the water. The <br />water in 1912 has sets of ripples, and small rapids. In 1999 high water, the <br />river in the same sec\ion flows are in a high flow regime with standing <br />waves (local boating enthusiasts will testify to this). In 1912 there were few <br />if any boulders in this section of river. If there were no boulder then the <br />river did not take on step- pool characteristics. The river was an entirely <br />different type of river in 1912 than after its transformation through the next <br />half century. <br />
